Knights Off The Field Learning Center (OTF)
The Knights Off The Field Learning Center (OTF) is a voluntary tutoring service for athletes of River Ridge Jr. Knights Athletic programs.
The mission of the OTF is to support student learning in a manner that empowers students to take responsibility for their own learning and life, all while balancing the rigors of a Student Athlete’s demands. Our OTF coaches (AKA the tutors) seek to help students recognize their own potential and to help them improve skills they need to function more effectively in the classroom.
This program is designed to teach young athletes to prioritize their education before they reach the high school level.
The OTF coaches and directors of the Knights OTF Learning Center will be volunteering their time to enrich the academic success of athletes at the middle school level. The coaches will mainly consist of River Ridge High School students who are members of the Beta Club, Honor Roll and National Honors Society. The directors will be volunteer educators and coaches from River Ridge High School and members of the River Ridge Community.
Tutoring Program Mission & Goals
• To help Student Athlete’s engage in self-assessment of his/her academic learning and personal growth in developing their personal awareness “Off The Field”.
• To help Student Athlete’s gain proficiency in skills pertinent to success in coursework of all disciplines to help them achieve a foundational skill set.
• OTF will provide quality tutoring that supports student learning and empowers students to achieve success.
• To help increase Student Athlete engagement in the learning process, thus resulting in academic improvement and greater understanding in tutored subjects.
• To provide a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment that supports the teacher’s instruction and supplement the Student Athletes learning.
• To engage educators at Mill Creek Middle School in the program and work as a tool for them to help their students succeed in the classroom.
The intent of the Knights Off The Field Learning Center (OTF) is to not only help student athletes with their academic progress, but to also develop our OTF coaches to be role models for making classwork and academics a priority in the Student Athlete’s academic career.
